too many of the breaths we swallowed
went unaccounted in the humidity of that summer
you stretched yourself
higher than me
as I ghostwrote you
& you said thank you for your services
defensively
my curls were more generous than my lips
and i wished for that winter pottery seminar when my knuckles cracked open blood
I wanted stay
that dry
working for function
on something to hold ( something to keep )
